What is a Spa Pool?
A spa pool can be defined as a compact body of warm, constantly moving water designed for sitting or lying in rather than swimming or total body immersion.
Combining the therapeutic benefits of warm water with jets of water, or vigorous air bubbles that provide massaging and soothing effects to the body, its primary purpose is to enhance relaxation.
Spa pools are much smaller than swimming pools, but can be designed to accommodate several people, usually with a seat-level inside.
Typically, the spa pool will fall into one of two categories ‘Skimmer’ and ‘Deck-Level’ (or overflow).

Expertise and Industry Know How
Types of Spa Pool
Skimmer Spa Pool
A Skimmer Spa, also known as a freeboard spa, sees the water sit approximately 4 inches below the edge of the spa, depending on its design. Sitting near the waterline, ‘skimmers’ collect the surface layer of the water so it can be filtered and treated before being pumped back up.
Deck Level Spa Pool
On a Deck Level Spa (or Overflow Spa) the water line is level with the top edge of the spa. The perimeter of the spa is surrounded by an overflow channel which collects the overflowing water into a balance tank, which feeds into a filtration system before being returned to the spa.
This is a popular option in the commercial leisure industry as overflow spas tend to be larger allowing several users to enter or leave as the water level is maintained and the advanced filtration clears, cleans and filters the water constantly.
Each pool type has its own advantages and benefits, with different characteristics, properties and maintenance requirements.

In this respect deck level pool surrounds are often preferred due to their surface water drainage system and the safest for emergency evacuation procedures.
