Hammam Rooms

With roots dating back to the Roman and Byzantine eras, and still very much a way of life in Moroccan and Turkish culture, Topline Pools and Wellness offer bespoke Hammam Rooms with a modern-meets-traditional feel upholding the wellness benefits of ancient heat traditions with state-of-the-art technology for a more enjoyable and relaxing thermal experience.

Creating captivating sensory experiences

Bespoke Hammam Rooms

The Hammam is a stage of treatments (or a ritual) which are aimed at cleansing the whole body through steam and heat. The treatments usually consist of steaming, scrubbing and massaging the skin and the use of aromatic oils.

Traditionally a hammam had three rooms or bathing areas with temperatures increasing gradually in each subsequent room. However, modern Hammams are usually a single dedicated steam room with loungers or benches and a tap and bowl or hose for washing water following a scrub/exfoliation treatment.

Hammam Room Construction Specialists

Often experienced as part of a thermal journey, be it sauna, steam room etc with a cooling experience perhaps a cold plunge pool, ice room or feature (experience) shower, a Hammam brings a truly luxurious element to any spa or wellness centre looking to add a unique wellness experience room.

Our custom-built Hammam Rooms come with a tiled preparation area and steam room with a centrally positioned massage table or heated slab (“belly stone”) as its centrepiece, a ‘Vichy’ Shower above the heated slab and optional steam introduction.

Our Hammam Rooms are designed, manufactured, installed and serviced by our in-house teams, ensuring the best quality throughout the project and beyond.

What are the benefits of a Hammam?

Hammam treatments can yield several benefits to both physical and mental health including boosting the immune system, increasing blood circulation, eliminating toxins from the body, improving respiratory health, rejuvenating the skin, relaxing the mind and body, reducing stress and anxiety, soothing aches and pains and improving quality of sleep.

Hammam Room Design & Installation Recommendations

Due to the wet environment of the hammam rooms they must be constructed of durable and waterproof materials.

Slip-resistant stone tiling with integral drains should be set into the floor to avoid pooling of water and to aid cleaning and maintenance, while sloping benches allow condensation to run off the surfaces.

Ventilation is vital to provide a fresh air supply, extract stale air and ensure good oxygen levels.

Attention also needs to be given to the placing of the steam outlet, choosing the correct size steam generator and selecting an area or plant room to mount the steam generator which will allow for access and sufficient space for servicing.

Consideration needs to be given to ceiling height whether designed to include a traditional domed cupola roof or vaulted ceiling. Modern lighting technology can be used to replicate the more traditional hammams which have piercings in the domed roof, sometimes in quite intricate shapes, allowing sunlight to shaft through these “elephant eyes”. These can be round downlights to complex systems where lighting projectors shine through to replicate the shafts of sunlight in traditional settings.

Often hammams follow an eastern influenced design finished in traditional Turkish “Iznik” tiles and Carrara Blanco marble, although modern hammams can incorporate different finishes or achieve a similar effect with modern plasters.

Our team has considerable knowledge of and experience in hammam room design, build and installation. Whatever your hammam project encompasses, we can discuss your needs and requirements, offering practical advice from the start and ensuring every suitable and important feature is considered.
