There are no specific rules on what dimensions a plunge pool need to be, but as they are not designed for swimming in, they don’t need to be large. The key component is to ensure the water is cold or warm enough to provide the desired therapeutic effects and deep enough (around 1 metre to 1.5 metres in depth) for users to fully immerse themselves.
A cold plunge pool typically uses standard cold water that is filtered and treated the same way as any swimming pool. Plunge pool chillers work to keep the water temperature cool taking water through the system and removing the heat before it is returned to the pool.
Plunge pools can fit in small spaces and be maintained relatively easily. They can be built in various shapes and sizes, but their design will depend on the space and surroundings. Ideally, they should be in close vicinity to hot or cold treatment rooms so they can be integrated into the thermal spa experience.
