Elevate your ice cool experience

Ice Station Design and Build

Complementing the ice-cold experience, an Ice Station or ice fountain dispenses cooling fine-crushed ice flakes through an ice chute into a bowl for an invigorating cool down body rub.

Having become increasingly popular as an aid to help cool down athletes’ inner body temperature after a hard work out and to reduce any swelling and ease aches and pains, they are now commonly found within spa, hotel or leisure facilities. The automatically dispensed ice flakes can be specifically applied to cool the extremities of the body, such as legs and arms.

Our ice station installations can be placed on a wall or ceiling within an existing ice room or installed either near a sauna or a steam room to achieve a prompt and optimal thermal contrast.

What is an Ice Room?

An Ice Room is a cold room where cooling technology is used to chill the air to below freezing point and create an invigorating thermal contrast to a sauna or steam room experience.

Designed to reduce body temperatures gently and ensure maximum health benefits, it creates the desired contrast that is so beneficial to our body, but in a less drastic way than a cold plunge pool.

This can be achieved through the distribution of precisely temperature-controlled air, ice walls water-cooled seats, “real” snow from water spray coming from small nozzles or even “snowfall showers”. Ice flakes from an Ice Station can also be rubbed on the body to help the cooling down process.

What is an Ice Wall?

An ice wall is a sheet-like mass of layered ice that has formed on the surface of one or more stainless steel panels. Integrated cooling technology is used to cool water down and keep it frozen. This can be supplemented by an optional water drip system.

What is a Snowfall Shower?

A Snowfall Shower offers cooling through instant snow production. At the touch of a button, a continuous gentle sprinkling or a swirling snowstorm can be generated. Using corn snow, a course granular snow formed by alternate cycles of freezing and thawing, it melts on the skin for a refreshing and positive experience, providing a gentler alternative to a plunge pool and a unique and fun way to gain the benefits of hot/cold therapy.

What are the benefits of ice rooms?

Ice Rooms are the perfect place to cool down after spending time in the heated treatment rooms.

Ranging from -5°C to -10°C, the cold air helps to increase blood circulation, strengthens the immune system, invigorates the respiratory tract, soothes aching muscles, stimulates skin cells and enhance your sense of wellbeing.

While ice on the skin revitalises and tones tissues, re-activates circulation invigorating the body and stimulating the nerve endings to leave users feeling refreshed and energised.

Ice Rooms Options & Features

Ice rooms can take different shapes and forms whether it be tiled or designed to replicate an igloo or the look and feel of a cave of ice with artificial rock blanketed with a fresh layer of snow to create a unique sensory experience. Other options include back-lit side walls clad with salt stone imitations resembling blocks of ice or modern illuminated glass façades.

The ice room experience can be further enhanced with ‘Ice Cool’ LED Lighting. It is even possible to use chromotherapy lighting with a succession of colours to create the right atmosphere, be it uplifting and invigorating or relaxing and calming. Indirect lighting and windows can also be embedded in the walls to create a spacious ambience.

Ice stations or ice fountains are often the focal point of an ice room. Free-standing or integrated into the wall, they come in various square or cylindrical shapes, and the materials used can include anything from ceramics, copper and glass to stainless steel. They are completely customisable adapting to the shape, colour and material of your wellness facility. There are virtually no limits to the ice fountain.

Ice Room Design & Installation Recommendations

When designing an ice room and plant room layout, it’s essential to consider regulations and other factors such as space, insulation, drainage, ventilation, accessibility and ease of use.

Adequate space for the snow / ice delivery device, cooling plant, filtration and water sanitation equipment, pipework, pumps, fans, trimming and thermal protection and automatic machinery system must be all be allowed for.

Snow showers can be integrated in almost any space within a hydrothermal area. They can be designed as an open space or feature walls made of glass, natural stone or tiles. Sound or light effects can also be integrated.

Installing an ice station inside a snow room is recommended to obtain even greater effects from a contrast treatment.

The dispenser can be installed in the ceiling or in a side wall, both on the inside or outside of the ice room enabling the user to obtain even greater effects from a contrast treatment.

We have many years invaluable experience helping clients in the design, build, installation and maintenance of high-quality wellness rooms and plant rooms.
