The Client: Premier League Football Club.
The Brief
Our client’s training ground is regarded as one of the finest facilities in UK sport. Having undergone a major face-lift in 2021, the elite training facility is considered a key facet of the club’s long-term strategy for success. However, it was felt the pool hall area could be significantly enhanced with the installation of a much-improved, more efficient and more environmentally friendly wellness space to meet the club’s commitment to environmental sustainability and to provide a superior recovery space to support the players’ demanding training schedule. Having been involved in the build and refurbishment of other football club’s facilities, Topline Pools and Wellness were contracted to refurbish and upgrade the client’s pool hall.
The Challenge
The existing swim unit was to be removed, and a new stainless-steel spa installed, but to ensure that the new shell sits flush with the pool surround it would have to be designed with an extra lower frame.
What We Did
The pool hall refurb project comprised the removal of existing hydrotherapy pool, adjacent plunge pool and spa bath, pool area tiled flooring, sauna and showers/shower cubicles and replacement with new bespoke stainless steel hydrotherapy pool (4700mm x 3500mm) and single enlarged cold plunge pool (5000mm x 2200mm), bespoke aspen sauna, bespoke steam room, floor and wall tiling, new shower screening and all associated alterations and extensions of drainage, new mechanical and electrical installations for the proper operation of the new installed pools and equipment.
To ensure the water remained at 10 degrees day and night, we installed a larger chiller. This was remotely monitored by the club’s performance director. And to meet the club’s energy efficiency requirements, we used a water-cooled chiller which provided free heat to the pool and meant the chiller would not be dumping heat into the plant space.
The Results
Topline’s installations, refurb and upgrading of the pool hall represent a considerable improvement, with efficient, durable and stylish products complimenting the world class facility and ensuring that it will meet the club’s needs for many years to come.
