Made in Britain

Back in 2011 Stoves & Co., one of the UK’s largest and best-loved cooking brands, launched a national campaign to call for a standard ‘Made in Britain’ marque to be applied to all products manufactured in the UK.

Since that time the campaign has gone from strength to strength – with over 600 manufacturers signed up to the logo and backing from a number of prominent MP’s, and referred to in a speech made to the EEF in March 2012.

The campaign was originally launched after research uncovered widespread confusion amongst consumers about Made in Britain goods. The findings revealed that half of UK consumers are baffled when it comes to buying ‘British’, two-thirds (67%) want an official seal of approval to show products made in Britain and the majority (52%) think British brands should bring manufacturing back to the UK.

Following this call from the public, in early 2011 Stoves launched a national competition amongst UK university design students asking them to create a logo which could be used as a standard marque. Receiving hundreds of entries the winning design, by Cynthia Lee from Nottingham University, is now proudly displayed on hundreds of web sites, products and documentation.
